Critical Speed Field Testing of a Passenger Vehicle- N.A.T.A.R.I., 1991; Albert T. Baxter & James R. Mentzer
The use of anti-lock brakes (ABS) during a critical speed passenger vehicle maneuver has raised questions as to tire mark evidence left on the highway surface and the validity of commonly used critical speed formula for accident investgation and reconstruction purposes. The appropriate coefficient of friction values to utilize are also discussed. Field tests were conducted in Atlantic City, New Jersey by National Association of Traffic Accident Reconstructionists and Investigators during their annual 1991 seminar. The results of these tests are provided in this paper.
