RAILROAD GRADE CROSSING ACCIDENT VERTICAL ALIGNMENT
In reviewing motor vehicle and train accident collisions, over the last twenty years, a great deal of time has been dedicated to research and reviewed regarding site triangulation, i.e., obstruction to view for motorist?s approaching a grade crossing. The interest in this subject has been well published, not only in the Federal Highway Grade Crossing Handbook, the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials, The Traffic Control Devices Handbook, but is now readily seen being published in the Operation Lifesavers handouts on investigating accidents. The one subject that the railroad industry has failed to address is vertical alignment.
