From The CNET.com The Net Electronic evidence anchors porn case Last modified: August 29, 2002, 1:14 PM PDT By Declan McCullagh Staff Writer, CNET News.com
Adobe Photoshop Usage A Rochester, N.Y., federal judge on Thursday sentenced a former Xerox engineer accused of trafficking in child pornography to nearly four years in prison.
The government's prosecution of Larry Benedict, 45, is unusual because all the evidence in the case is electronic, and all of the evidence appears to have been allegedly tampered with or otherwise altered after it was in government custody.

Conn. Supremes Set Standards for Computer Evidence Ray B. Burton III The Connecticut Law Tribune 05-13-2004
Use of Adobe Photoshop In a ruling expected to be to computer technology what State v. Porter is to scientific evidence, the Connecticut Supreme Court last week decided what foundation is needed for computer-generated evidence to be presented at trial. As with Porter, the May 3 decision in State v. Alfred Swinton, which upheld Swinton's murder conviction, is expected to extend far beyond the case that spawned it.

GROUND BASED AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Most technical examination photographs are views showing the four sides and specific damage of a vehicle. Much time and effort is given to establish a principle direction of force using these types of photographs. Many times the angles of the photographs make this a difficult process. This process can be made a lot easier if one could photograph the vehicles from overhead, showing the deformed vehicle as it sits.

Digital Photography Policy
Policies governing the digital imaging process will have to effectively address the risks of digital photography as evidence in legal proceedings, A preventative measure to counter these arguments is to ensure that you have a standard operating procedure for taking and handling digital images. These procedures should be in a written format and cover all aspects of the digital imaging process.
A sample police on procedures is attached in pdf.

Digital Photography There are two principal requirements to getting a photograph admitted into evidence, relevance and authentication. Unless the photograph is stipulated by all parties, the party seeking to introduce the photograph into evidence must be prepared to present testimony that the photograph is accurate and correct. In some cases a chain of custody, including custody of the undeveloped film, will be required. Generally, a photograph is admitted into evidence, once presented, at the discretion of the judge.
