In an effort to get some travel times for young children a study was conducted in August of 1985 at a local pre-school. The PDF file shows the results for both Females and Males.

Some explanations -

I tried to get ages to Year and Month, however, in some cases all I was told was "This is the 5 year old class", which meant children between 4-1/2 to 5-1/2 years. In which case a 5 was put into the Year column and a "? +/- 6" was put into the month column.

The "2nd 24 foot" column is looking at the time or speed for the child to cover the second 24 feet in the 48 foot total distance. In other words, what is the time/speed to run across 24 feet without the cceleration time lag.

Walking speed instructions were to walk at a normal speed as if you were crossing a street with a parent. However, these speeds may (probably are) be considered a "Fast Walk" speed, since to kids of these ages it is a game and a race.

All times were obtained with a stop watch.

HIGH AND MIGHTY (The dangerous rise of the SUV) by Keith Bradsher c.2003 published by Public Affairs Books (www.publicaffairsbooks.com) ISBN 1-58648-203-3 $14 in paperback In what is likely the most comprehensive look at the historical, economic, sociological, psychological, and engineering aspects of this class of vehicle ever written, author Bradsher leaves virtually no stone unturned, citing numerous inside industry and government sources. Assisted originally by benign government regulatory neglect, and eventually by out-and-out protectionism, US automakers skillfully (and profitably) were able to conceive and supply a relatively non-existant transportation need while ignoring numerous safety, engineering, and air quality issues, causing the needless deaths of thousands of motorists in the US and abroad. This book should be required reading for anyone contemplating purchasing an SUV, and is highly recommended for those in the accident reconstruction and investigation fields.

I was originally looking for any information snowmobiles and snowmobile collisions. Alas, there is no such "Topic." So, if anyone here has any pertinent information I could use, I would appreciate it. I am investigating a 2 snowmobile offset head-on crash involving a blind rise. Please give me some input. Thanks

From The CNET.com The Net Electronic evidence anchors porn case Last modified: August 29, 2002, 1:14 PM PDT By Declan McCullagh Staff Writer, CNET News.com

Adobe Photoshop Usage A Rochester, N.Y., federal judge on Thursday sentenced a former Xerox engineer accused of trafficking in child pornography to nearly four years in prison.

The government's prosecution of Larry Benedict, 45, is unusual because all the evidence in the case is electronic, and all of the evidence appears to have been allegedly tampered with or otherwise altered after it was in government custody.

Conn. Supremes Set Standards for Computer Evidence Ray B. Burton III The Connecticut Law Tribune 05-13-2004

Use of Adobe Photoshop In a ruling expected to be to computer technology what State v. Porter is to scientific evidence, the Connecticut Supreme Court last week decided what foundation is needed for computer-generated evidence to be presented at trial. As with Porter, the May 3 decision in State v. Alfred Swinton, which upheld Swinton's murder conviction, is expected to extend far beyond the case that spawned it.

Dayton Police release dramatic video that shows an SUV landing on top of a pedestrian after a crash.

Attached is the complete news report in pdf.

There are cameras at the intersection to catch red light runners. They show the victim walking in the cross walk when a car and an SUV crashed. The SUV then rolled over onto the pedestrian. Police say it all started when the driver of a PT Cruiser ran a red light and slammed into the SUV.

Too many cars, too few digits U.S. will run out of vehicle ID numbers. Solution? Recycle or buy from Botswana

By Eric Mayne / The Detroit News

The auto industry’s number is almost up.

The 17-digit codes that identify the origin, make, model and attributes of cars, trucks, buses — even trailers — worldwide will be exhausted by the end of the decade.

And like an odometer that returns to zero and starts over again, a Vehicle Identification Number — or VIN — could be duplicated.

Experts say duplicated VINs would cause havoc for repair shops, state license offices, insurance agencies, law enforcement and other groups that use VINs to process warranty claims, investigate accident claims and recover stolen vehicles.
